Hoffa fracture: a case report
نویسندگان
چکیده
Unicondylar fractures of the femur that occur in the coronal plane (Hoffa fractures) are uncommon and most often affect the lateral condyle. Conservative treatment generally yields poor results, but rigid internal fixation allows early functional rehabilitation and decreases the incidence of malunion, nonunion, and stability loss. This case report describes open reduction and internal fixation in the treatment of a young man with a Hoffa fracture. The fragment was reduced and fixed with a cannulated corticocancellous screw. At 16-month follow-up, the fracture was completely healed and he was able to achieve a normal range of movement, with 145o flexion of the knee and full extension. To achieve favorable long-term results in coronal plane fractures of femoral condyles, open reduction, stable fixation and early mobilization are mandatory. Physical rehabilitation should be initiated as soon as possible to minimize joint contractures.

متن کاملIntra-articular corrective osteotomy for malunited Hoffa fracture: A case report
Hoffa fracture, an isolated coronal plane fracture of the posterior aspect of the femoral condyle, is known as an unstable, intra-articular fracture, and therefore, operative treatment is recommended. However, insufficient open reduction or failure of fixation may lead to malunion. We performed intra-articular corrective osteotomy for a malunited Hoffa fracture in a 31-year-old man and obtained...
متن کاملHoffa Fracture of the Femoral Condyle
In this report, we present a case of an uncommon coronal fracture of the femoral condyle, known as a Hoffa fracture. Classification of these injuries and commonly associated injuries are discussed. We describe previously proposed mechanisms of injury and review the current literature. The difficulty in establishing radiologic diagnosis on the basis of radiography exclusively is emphasized. Fina...

A rare occurrence of a case of Hoffa fracture pseudarthrosis in an alcoholic patient with genu valgum associated with venous insufficiency who underwent total knee arthroplasty is reported. The literature is reviewed and the main factors for surgical indication of total knee arthroplasty after a fracture of the knee are discussed. Total knee arthroplasty was a viable option in a 60-year-old pat...
متن کاملA Case of Distal Femur Medial Condyle Hoffa Type II(C) Fracture Treated with Headless Screws
Coronal plane fractures of the distal femur are less frequent compared to sagittal plane fractures. They were described by Hoffa in 1904 and are known as Hoffa fractures (AO type B3). They are isolated fractures of the femoral condyle and rare in occurrence. The objective in the treatment of these fractures is to achieve anatomical reduction of the articular surface and a stable fixation to pre...
